Our Pre-School in a home from home setting
Childminding in a home-from-home setting provides a nurturing and comforting environment where children feel secure and valued. Unlike larger childcare centres, this setting offers personalised attention, fostering strong bonds between the child and the caregiver. Children benefit from a consistent routine in a familiar atmosphere, which supports emotional stability and confidence. Additionally, small group sizes encourage meaningful social interactions, while allowing activities to be tailored to each child’s interests and developmental needs. This holistic approach promotes both learning and well-being, making it an ideal choice for many families.

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE
COMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE
- Communication and Language is the area of learning that focuses on developing children’s ability to express themselves effectively and to listen and understand others.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
- Physical Development is the area of learning that focuses on developing children’s physical skills, coordination, and control over their bodies.
Personal social and emotional Development
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) is the area of learning that focuses on developing children’s self-awareness, self-regulation, and ability to form positive relationships with others.

Communication and Language Development
Developing children’s ability to express themselves and understand Developing children’s ability to express themselves and understand others is fundamental to their holistic growth. This involves nurturing their communication skills, emotional intelligence, and empathy. By encouraging children to articulate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly, we help them build confidence and self-awareness. Simultaneously, teaching them to actively listen, recognise different perspectives, and respond thoughtfully fosters strong interpersonal relationships and social understanding. Through activities such as collaborative projects, storytelling, role-playing, and open discussions, children can enhance both their expressive capabilities and their capacity to connect with others meaningfully.
Personal social and emotional Development
Supporting children’s self-awareness, relationships, and emotional well-being is fundamental to their overall growth and development. Self-awareness helps children understand their emotions, thoughts, and values, which forms the foundation for confident decision-making and self-regulation. Encouraging activities such as reflective journaling, mindfulness exercises, and open conversations about feelings can significantly boost their sense of self.
Cultivating healthy relationships is equally vital. Positive interactions with family, peers, and educators foster social skills like empathy, active listening, and effective communication. Group activities, cooperative games, and guided discussions about friendship dynamics can provide practical experiences for children to build and nurture meaningful connections.
Emotional well-being encompasses the ability to manage stress, exhibit resilience, and maintain a positive outlook. Providing a supportive environment where children feel safe to express themselves, coupled with teaching coping strategies such as deep-breathing techniques, emotional literacy, and problem-solving skills, can enhance their emotional health.
By integrating these elements into daily routines, educational curricula, and family life, we create a nurturing framework that supports children’s holistic development, equipping them with the tools to thrive both personally and socially.
Physical Development
Promoting children’s physical health, coordination, and self-care skills is essential for their overall development and well-being. This involves a multi-faceted approach that integrates physical activities, nutritional guidance, and everyday routines to support healthy growth.
Physical health can be enhanced through regular exercise, outdoor play, and activities that encourage movement, which helps in building strong muscles and bones, improving cardiovascular health, and boosting the immune system. Teaching children the importance of balanced nutrition, proper hydration, and adequate rest also plays a vital role.
Coordination skills can be fostered through activities that develop both gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, and climbing, and fine motor skills, like drawing, cutting, and threading beads. These activities help children gain better control over their body movements, improve hand-eye coordination, and prepare them for more complex physical tasks.
Developing self-care skills is equally important, as it promotes independence and confidence. Encouraging children to manage personal hygiene, dress themselves, and participate in routine tasks like brushing their teeth or washing their hands helps instil responsibility and self-reliance.
Overall, a supportive environment that offers opportunities for diverse physical activities and self-care routines will significantly contribute to children’s holistic growth and lifelong healthy habits.
Literacy
Fostering children’s early reading and writing skills is fundamental to their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Early literacy lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning, critical thinking, and effective communication. To nurture these skills, it is essential to create a rich language environment both at home and in educational settings.
Parents and educators play a pivotal role by engaging children in activities that promote phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, and comprehension. Reading aloud regularly exposes children to diverse language patterns, storytelling techniques, and new vocabulary. Incorporating interactive discussions about the stories helps strengthen comprehension and critical thinking.
Writing skills can be encouraged through activities such as drawing, scribbling, and eventually forming letters and words. Providing children with opportunities to express their thoughts, ideas, and experiences through writing fosters creativity and builds confidence. Simple exercises like labelling pictures, composing short stories, and practising handwriting can significantly enhance writing proficiency.
Additionally, integrating playful learning through songs, rhymes, and literacy games makes the acquisition of reading and writing skills enjoyable and effective. Consistent support, positive reinforcement, and a literacy-rich environment are key to developing strong early literacy skills that will benefit children throughout their academic journey and beyond.
Mathematics
Building children’s understanding of numbers, shapes, and measures is a fundamental aspect of early education that fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It involves introducing children to the concepts of counting, recognising numerical patterns, and understanding the relationships between numbers. This foundation helps children grasp basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
In terms of shapes, children learn to identify and classify various geometric forms, such as circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. They explore the properties of these shapes, including the number of sides, angles, and symmetry. Through hands-on activities like drawing, cutting, and constructing with blocks, children develop spatial awareness and visual perception.
Understanding measures involves teaching children about size, length, weight, capacity, and time. Activities may include comparing objects to determine which is longer or heavier, using non-standard units (like blocks or hand spans) to measure items, and gradually introducing standard units such as centimetres, metres, grams, and litres. Learning about time includes recognising clocks, understanding the sequence of daily events, and grasping concepts like morning, afternoon, and evening.
By engaging in interactive, practical experiences, children build a strong mathematical foundation that supports their cognitive development and prepares them for more complex concepts in later years.
Understanding the world
Supporting children in understanding their physical world and community involves creating opportunities for them to explore, observe, and interact with their surroundings. This process helps them to develop a sense of place, awareness of their environment, and an understanding of the various roles people play within their community.
Activities that encourage curiosity, such as nature walks, community visits, and hands-on experiments, allow children to engage directly with the world around them. Discussions about local landmarks, cultural practices, and environmental features further enhance their comprehension. By fostering connections with family, friends, and community members, children learn about diversity, social roles, and the importance of cooperation and respect.
Through guided learning experiences, storytelling, and interactive play, children build a foundational knowledge of their environment and community, laying the groundwork for responsible citizenship and a lifelong interest in the world they inhabit.
Expressive Arts and Design
Fostering children’s creativity and self-expression is a vital component of their overall development. By engaging them in a variety of artistic and imaginative activities, we provide opportunities for them to explore their unique perspectives and ideas. This can be achieved through mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpting, storytelling, music, dance, drama, and digital art. Each medium offers distinct avenues for children to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in ways that verbal expression may not fully capture.
Encouraging creativity not only enhances cognitive and motor skills but also boosts problem-solving abilities, confidence, and emotional intelligence. By creating an environment that values and nurtures artistic exploration, we empower children to take risks, experiment with new concepts, and develop a strong sense of identity. Additionally, incorporating collaborative projects can promote teamwork and empathy, as children learn to appreciate diverse viewpoints and styles.
Ultimately, supporting children’s creative expression helps them become more adaptable, innovative, and resilient individuals, equipped to navigate the complexities of the world around them.
